Past Party Monday! {Jordan's Circus/1st Birthday} - LAURA'S little PARTY

Past Party Monday! {Jordan's Circus/1st Birthday}

July 02, 2012

While I was pregnant with my 3rd child, I was already planning his 1st party!
I knew right away that I wanted to do a Circus theme.
I'm in love with bright, vivid color.
And I wanted to be sure that Jordan's party had LOTS of it!
Polka dots are another of my favorites. You'll see a lot in the pics.

I was too busy during the party to get a picture of the food we served.
{I really dislike when that happens!}
We served Fried chicken, coleslaw, chili beans,
veggies & dip, freshly popped popcorn, nachos, and cotton candy.
We also had cookies on sticks, cupcakes, marshmallow pops,
and of course, delicious Birthday cake!

I found some great Circus stuff at:
Michael's, Oriental trading co., and Target.
And I also made some of my own decor!
Being that Jordan's birthday is on August, it's VERY hot!
I thought it would be a great idea to make hand fans attached to sticks.
My friend made his cupcake toppers, and I just had her enlarge the file.

I also constructed the game booths.
I bought PVC pipe, painted each one blue, and added yellow dots.
Then my hubby attached the banners across the top to finish it off.
    We set up games for the kids, complete with real fish as prizes.
I made a few game booth signs, and thought they turned out cute!

And a circus party wouldn't be complete without a fortune teller!
My friends' dauther played the part perfectly!
She read fortunes from a bowl of fortune cookies I bought from Panada Express.
She improvised on the fortunes, to make them kid-friendly!
{Here's another sign I made}

A mini PRIZE booth for the winners to pick their heart's desire!

I loved the idea of having a photo booth!
I bougt some plywood, added about 3 yards of material for a background,
and then filled an old suticase with all sorts of party props!
It was a HUGE hit with all the guests.

I also made my covered patio to resemble a real circus tent.
It was a lot of work, {up & down that ladder} and took about 3 days.
I did this by using large rolls of red & white plastic table covers.

My goal was to have color EVERYWHERE!
And the backs of the white, rented chairs were no exception.
I created a fun little spray that would then be tied to the back of each chair.
It sure sounded like a good idea, until I realized that I had about 75 chairs!
But they did just what I wanted them to - they added color.
I made these with floral sticks, krinkle paper, pipe cleaners, and raffle tickets.

 I also made my centerpieces.
I used plastic popcorn tubs, krinkle paper, pinwheels,
lollipops & more raffle tickets.

 To date, this was one of the FUNNEST parties I've ever thrown!
The party prep, the crafts, the countless hours/days,
and ALL the smiles on everyone's face just made it all so worth it!
Now it's already time to start prepping for Jordan's 2nd birthday!!
Time flies so quickly...
