40th BIRTHDAY DONUT PARTY! - LAURA'S little PARTY

40th BIRTHDAY DONUT PARTY!

June 03, 2016

In honor of National Donut Day, I'm reposting this fun donut themed party that I had for my 4oth, back in 2014. It was such a FUN day, and I got to celebrate in my pj pants - even better!!

Birthday parties are always a fun excuse to gather friends to celebrate! And when it’s your own party, that’s when it really gets fun! 7 months ago, I turned the BIG 40!! I wanted to celebrate with things that made me giddy!  Those things included: sprinkled donuts, colors of pink & aqua, wine, fun friends, and comfy pajama pants!

I found the cutest Donut party printables from Lauren Haddox Designs, and got started with the party planning! Not only did the printable set have cute sprinkled donuts as part of the design, the colors couldn’t have been more perfect for my 40th party vision!
Because I was incorporating donuts with pajama bottoms, I wanted my party theme to focus on a sleepover-type celebration, but for big girls! After all, Girls just want to have fun!

I gathered fun props to use, and quickly purchased spray paint to get started on all my DIY party projects! First up was a faux cake. I love adding a bit of whimsy to my parties. I created my “cake” by covering a few 2” styrofoam rounds. I stacked three of them to reach my desired height, and wrapped them with pink polka dotted wrapping paper. Because the top was exposed, I cut a circle to cover the top of the cake, and added fun ball fringe all around the top. The fringe also hid any visible wrapping paper seams. My cake looked super cute on top of a cake stand that I spray painted in a coordinating color!

I found a brass headboard, and painted it pink. I knew it would work perfectly as a backdrop for one of my dessert tables! I also painted an old-fashioned dresser, and refurbished an old wet bar. Nothing like adding aqua colored fabric, pink spray paint, and a pink boa, to a bar that my hubby owned from way back in his bachelor days!

As part of the decor, I used pink sponge rollers, aqua colored brushes, and shower loofas that had colored sponge bits - they almost resembled sprinkles! The party colors were so fun to work with! I used paper fans, boas, and tissue poms. I also found some round donut shaped balloons and painted them pink, and then painted on a few aqua sprinkles. They were a fun touch, and a conversation starter!

I also purchased a few small pink donut boxes and tied them with aqua tulle, and added a printable tag on the top that read: Laura’s Donut shop.

I’m a girl that loves her sweet treats! So a variety of sprinkled donuts, along with fabulously designed cookies, cupcakes, macarons, and popcorn, were set out for my guests to enjoy.

My favorite part of the cupcakes were the darling pajama pants toppers, and the the number 40 that resembled a sprinkled donut!

My party cookies were just as fabulous with all the super fun donuts, a pillow, slippers, a night mask, and even a bed!

We sipped on pink lemonade with fun colored straws, and cute flags on top.

Later we nibbled on fresh strawberries that were served in pink striped cups, chicken salad sandwiches, and “cucumber mask” salad. We paired our lunch with sweet, sparkling wine from Stella Rosa - definitely a crowd favorite!

After we filled our tummies with yummy food, we did what girls do best when they get together... Girl talk! We laughed, shared stories of our kiddos, laughed, talked about our upcoming parties, and laughed some more! And no donuts & pajamas party would be complete without a little photo booth action! We each took our fun props of hair brushes, night masks, donuts & glasses, and giggled as we all posed for the cameras!

I made sure to leave take-out boxes for my guests to fill with treats, to enjoy later as a “midnight snack”. They also went home with a few fun party favors: a candy necklace, bubble gum, and a small bottle of Stella Rosa wine!

My 40th birthday party was so much fun! I felt so lucky to spend it with such a great group of fun-loving girls. Cheers to another great year!
