Disney Channel recently unveiled their new animated series "Elena of Avalor" and we couldn't contain our excitement for the highly anticipated Latina Princess! We celebrated the royal debut of Princess Elena by having a viewing party with familia and friends.

Taking place in the enchanted fairytale land of Avalor, Elena is a brave and adventurous teenager who  just saved her kingdom from an evil sorceress! With the help of her friends and family, Elena is embarking on a journey that will lead her to understand the meaning of becoming a true leader, until she is old enough to become queen.

Disney Channel and Disney Junior held a one-hour premiere on Friday July 22nd. To help bring Princess Elena of Avalor to light, we were sent a beautiful party kit that included items for us to hold a celebration that was fit for royalty!

It is said that every story has a beginning. Well, Princess Elena has two! We created mini versions of Elena's Family Album, and set them at each place setting of our royal celebration! My daughter hand painted the designs on paper mache boxes that were shaped like books. Our guests loved them!

We put together a table of sweet treats for our guests to enjoy. I wanted to incorporate the rich colors, plus a few details that you see in the beautiful kingdom of Avalor! For example, the lush green palm trees in front of a beautiful blue sky. I recreated the look by using cardboard palm tree stands, from Shindigz, and a roll of paper with a sky print. I love how the bright colored Elena of Avalor banner from our party kit looked against our backdrop.

And lets not forget Elena's beautiful guitar! We loved hearing her play alongside her Abuelo as they sang "Ready To Rule" together in the premeir episode of Elena of Avalor. We took one of our old guitars and painted it to resemble Elena's.

During our Elena of Avalor viewing party, my daughter, who is also 16, dressed up like Elena and strummed on the guitar that she painted herself. Our little guests loved our singing session before the show started!

Balloons are perfect for every celebration - especially a royal one! I used a festive balloon garland kit from our friends over at One Stylish Party. The colors were bold and beautiful, just like Princess Elena!

I created an Elena of Avalor table sign that was inspired by the beautiful displays you see when visiting the Elena of Avalor section of your local Disney Store. The displays were so gorgeous, and I wanted to create my own version for our viewing party!

Aren't these Elena inspired apples so pretty?! Elena's earrings and the ruffles on her dress were captured beautifully by our friends over at Roni's Sugar Creations.

Cupcakes, and homemade Avaloran buñuelos were also shared with our Elena of Avalor fans. {I'm sharing the recipe we used and how my daughter and I made these delicious fried pastry treats with mi Abuela!}

Our guests had fun getting creative with a beautiful canvas banner and fabric markers that were sent in our party kit.

With the help of her family and friends, like Skylar the Jaquin, Princess Elena can embrace her new role that requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion - the traits of a truly great leader!

Our royal party table was the perfect place to gather with familia and friends, and discuss our thoughts about the new Latina Princess, Elena of Avalor!

I was so inspired by the rich colors and beautiful details of Elena's Palace, and I wanted to incorporate some of the designs that inspired me. We used a tall wooden chair for Elena's special seat at our royal table. In bold colors, I stenciled designs on the back of the chair.

I found a beautifully detailed wooden letter E and painted it in rich colors of red, gold, and aqua.

Sweet fondant rosettes topped a delicious red velvet cake from Merely Sweets.

Details were added to macarons, and handpainted & embellished by our friends over at She Wears The Crown.

We are so thankful to finally have a Latina Disney Princess for our daughters, sisters, and friends to look up to! It's nice to see beautiful representation of our strong heritage!

My daughter will soon be 16, and she feels so happy to have someone her own age that represents bravery, compassion, and love for her family!

Elena portrays selfless love for others in her kingdom. She is headstrong and determined to go after something that she believes in.

Now you can catch Elena of Avalor with a new episode every Friday night at 7:30pm ET/PT on Disney Channel! We'll be tuning in, will you?!

Here's a pin to save for when you're ready to celebrate with your own Elena of Avalor party!

For our Elena of Avalor viewing party, my daughter and I got together with mi Abuela to make delicious Avaloran Buñuelos! This dessert has been a favorite of mi familias for a long time. I had never made them before now, but I have enjoyed them since I was a very little girl.

Ingredients for Avaloran Buñuelos
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 egg
  • vegetable oil
  • cinnamon and/or sugar
Steps

Mix the flour, milk and egg in a bowl with an electric mixer or whisk, until everything is smooth.

Place vegetable oil in large pan and turn on heat.

Once oil is heated, place the rosette in the hot oil. Then dip the hot rosette 3/4 of the way into the
batter. Do not dip the entire rosette into the batter.

Dip the batter-dipped rosette into the frying pan for up to 5 seconds or until golden brown.

Place the buñuelos on top of a plate with a paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and/or cinnamon. Enjoy!
