Celebrating 25 years of The Nightmare Before Christmas

October 13, 2018

On this day, in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas was released! We can't believe it's been 25 years since this Halloween favorite was released. My boys don't know it yet, but we're heading to the Hollywood Bowl later this month to watch the movie and sing-along with Danny Elfman and Catherine O'Hara! It's going to be AMAZING!

Do your children have a favorite movie character? My boys are obsessed with all things Jack Skellington! They watch The Nightmare Before Christmas several times a week and even know all the lines. Last year, my boys dressed up as Jack for Halloween! We picked out our Jack Skellington costumes from Oriental Trading. My boys couldn't wait to put them on!

This post was sponsored by Oriental Trading. LAURA'S little PARTY has received payment, and/or products, in exchange for party inspiration and fun ideas. As always, all opinions are 100% our own.

Because my boys love watching this Tim Burton movie so much, I wanted to set up a movie party to help welcome the Halloween season! Our friends over at Oriental Trading had so many fun things to help us create an easy outdoor movie party, featuring The Nightmare Before Christmas!

To help make my plain movie screen a bit more "spooky" I used my backdrop frame and added striped fabric for curtains. I also set out two black tree stand ups and hung mini pumpkin candy buckets on the branches.

Their Halloween decor is awesome, and they have something for everyone! Follow this link to their Halloween headquarters - there's something for everyone!

For our outdoor movie party, I personalized a movie night marquee sign! I placed it in front of our movie screen for all to see. Striped popcorn boxes held our movie night snacks and the boys helped set out their chairs and a small table in front of the movie screen. I kept the color palette simple by using black and white stripes and adding in pops of red and orange.

My boys never shy away from a photo opportunity! They squealed when I set up The Nightmare Before Christmas Jack, Sally and Zero cardboard standup. I even found some fun themed photo props from Amazon.

Our friends over at Confection Deception create some really amazing fake cakes! Haven't seen them yet? Oh my, you need to! I took their white fake cake and added a few touches to it. I purchased a cut file of Jack's mountain, cut it out with my Cricut machine and applied the vinyl to the side of my fake cake - so easy! I found this really cool Jack Skellington bank on Amazon and used it as a cake topper.

In the spirit of Christmas, I added the cutest mini Santa hats to the tops of our cupcakes. And just take a look at my apples! These are fake (just like the cake). I took fake apples, painted them with white Rustoleum spray paint and added more vinyl! The striped straws were added and my boys really liked them - even if they couldn't eat them!

My little guys thoroughly enjoyed their movie night and didn't want to remove their costumes! Looking to put together a Halloween party soon?
